You're new to web stuff and right away you want to create a flash site ??
Start with the basics - learn HTML and CSS first - www.w3schools.com

The replies of this topic seem to be all over the place...

In answer to your question, if you want to learn the basics of Flash, give http://www.kirupa.com a go, it's a fantastic site.

I also recommend the Total Training or Lynda video tutorial packages - really good stuff for beginners. Keep in mind though, basic flash on the timeline will indeed limit you in your creations. The true magic lies in Actionscript.

Good luck!

lynda.com will teach you a thing or two about flash and HTML/CSS as ladynred suggested.

well i agree with you there is no sense of doing a flash website if you are still a newbee in this industry because making one is complicated and promoting one is much more complicated so i suggest you just stick with the basic and leran html and css first after you lern html and css then it is your time to take one step higher and do your flash website.

vn5ltr makes a great point. The question has nothing to do with what methods people prefer to build websites. I work with multimedia/interactive designers who have limited knowledge of html and css but can still development some sharp sites. With your background in html/php/asp you should not have any problems with the coding, the interface will be the most challenging part. Besides a flash book, it would also be a good idea to pick up a book on action scripting. I prefer the lynda line of books and I avoid the Sams Teach Yourself books like the plague.

Wow on the comments. Amazing just how ignorant some people can be. The only "flash maker" you should be familiarizing yourself with, would have to be Adobe Flash CS3. I believe that's the newest?

Essentially, this is all you're going to need. Play with the time line, frames, objects and so on. Learn the essentials, until you feel comfortable with it. Next, move to action script, and you're all done!
