I've been developing web sites for about 10 years. My experience is old school. I am now seeking to get more advanced in order to save myself time, etc.

I am planning to work on a huge project that will consist of about 40+ web sites. The web sites for the most part will have their own content, but some areas that I would like to be able to manage are:

News/Updates
Banner Ads
Etc.

Basically, if I have a column on the right side with various ads on all 40+ sites and would like to either add a new ad or remove one, what is the best way to manage this?

you can use php includes to call a file in which you place your vertical column in. This same include can be used on all pages of all the sites.

Then, when you have to add a new advertisement, you simply edit that included file, rather than editing every page of every website.

This can also be used for a news section
