Would appreciate it if you'd provide suggestions on how you do your billable time tracking across multiple projects.

I currently write it down as I remember it but honestly I think I'm bending in favor of the client and undercharging....

Thanks

We use a billing program a friend of mine built.. As soon as a user logs on - the time is immediatly plugged into the database.. works great unless you go out for coffee.. That was the flaw in the plan.. so often we find ourselves correcting the numbers.. However, if it makes you feel better we recently found ourselves doing an ecommerce store & working for almost 12 cents a product by the time the job was completed.. <G>

Hey John, when I do billable work, I stick to pen and paper. Where I work, we use Work Order forms which have:
work number, organization, authorized by, work description and service description.

Most importantly the time, we bill in quarter hour intervals. With a minumum of 1 quarter hour for any work. So if it's 15 mintues then, 0.25 hrs. If it's 3 hours and 30 minutes then, 3.50 hrs. That method makes it easy to add up time according to your pricing. Hope that helps

I keep track of time and tasks using MS project. I use it at work so it is easy to use at home for my more interesting business activities....but project is not that easy to pick up and use.

Hi there, I use MS project too, but Act2000 is another possible, for a less high spec, try good ol' excel! You can set up a macro to record the time for you...although I dont have it to hand!, Ill try to build one if you like?>

Thanks to all of you for your replies - - Guess I'll just stick with plain old pencil and paper for now....
