Hey guys. I need help!

I tested a site I made for some mates with Mac Dreamweaver online today. It looks way different in IE and FireFox when I viewed it on a PC however it looks right in Safari which I was using to preview it while building it.

Basically in IE and Firefox the page description has no opacity level and the background image behind the text is displayed in the upper right hand corner. I want to try fix this.

www.goldfieldsphotos.com.au

This is how it should look:

Also, I realize the image file sizes are too big and some links arnt working etc etc. I'm still making design changes as well (like removing the blue outline above the page title and adding a flash banner). That will all be fixed.

I thought I would ask for some help here because I only learnt some of the code as I was making this. This problem Im having with different browsers seems a bit far over my head. Saying that, I will understand a solution if someone can look at the code and show me the changes I need to make to it.

Cheers

Well, typical of using DW in only WYSIWYG mode, you have everything nailed to the wall with position:absolute. This is the root of your problems and not the best way to lay out a site. You need to learn to use the normal document flow along with floats, margins and padding to push things where you want them. You should only need to use position:absolute sparingly.. if at all.

Thanks for that, you're very helpful.

I will search google how to do what you said. I just hope that it doesn't involve redoing the whole site. Anyway I appreciate you pointing me in the right direction.

One other question, how would you explain the opacity level not showing up how its ment to look? Its a png file background image for the page description box which is one of the only things set correctly. Any direction would be greatly appreciated.

*EDIT*
Read up on it. My PNG is an alpha channel image therefore not compatible with IE browsers <6...would love to find a work around to this If there's a way I can fade my image to clear at the bottom, if not I will it fade to black and make it a GIF instead.

There are several fixes for IE6's lack of PNG transparency, just googld for "pngfix", search here, you'll find so many people have asked the SAME question. Still, none of the 'fixes' will work for a REPEATING transparent PNG.
