Greetings all! I'm needing some help determining how much a client/business would pay for a site of this scale. I've recently entered the world of freelance programming/website design and need some help determining prices. The site is http://peruzzitoyota.com. Thanks! Edit: Sorry if this is the wrong forum...

you just reminded me it's way too long since i watched that immortal moment in the blues brothers - "how much for the little girl? sell me your women, i want to buy your women" - it's been so long i expect that's a major misquote

i saw your little toy there - totally ****e at estimating income! it's based on a few very very subjective figures. alexa site rank is not really a very live, current or solid basis for determining financial aspects of a site, i would have thought.

the saddest thing is that it apparently measures your income based on market figures indubitably saturated by google. you know websites can make money without ad revenue, let alone google. this one-sided perspective is just the usual invention of americaworld isn't it? no diversity whatsoever. always the big downfall for this part of the world.

It depends upon what needs to be done - webdesign only, graphic and image design as well ? Is the movie on the homepage ready-to-use, does it need to be converted from a source file or even filmed, is the shop/online database solution already set up or is it necessary to custom develop it ?

If anything needs to be done, $3000 is a very, very good price. A more realistic offer would be to multiply the price by two...

Basically designing and implementing everything you mentioned... webdesign, graphic and image design, flash images would be provided, but I would still have to create the movie, also would have to create the whole underlying database structure as well. So $6000 is a fair price? Or is it even worth more in the business world?

that kind of site I'd charge about 5000$ but as tobias
it depends upon what should be done

but if you're just starting, lower the prices a little bit, get some reputation first.

If you're smart, you'll bid out some of the project at a fixed rate, and some of it at an hourly rate, to mitigate your risk, and allow your bid some flexibility when they ask for changes.

it's all way too much

if you want to survive the recession you have to do something where you don't exploit anyone

your prices are all absurd

the high end of the market can have such prices, and beyond, but ordinary people should pay such that the profit isn't about 10,000% in terms of time, work, output etc

your prices are all mad. I sold 100s of 1000s of dollars of goods for people using web development that cost nought dollars and was done by an inexpert buffoon (me)

and even today, i don't pay anyone for anything that is actually free

it is an illusion to think you need gloss

it's pre-recession thinking

if anything, post-recession gloss is harmful

cheap cheap cheap

you guys is out of jobs, mateys - i'd learn something more vital, like backend programming, or for that matter (ANYTHING more vital) biscuit-making, since it's not really any more useful than a webdesigner to a modern ecommerce expert. (design is unimportant in being an expert... ecommerce is what it says - commerce, and electronic to boot. i like to do drorings. but that's just a hobby. it never made no bucks.)

It really depends on what all exactly needs to be done. I have resources and can get good websites done like this (without shooting a video) for around $2000

Let's put it this way: how much do you think this company actually paid for this site? Waaaayy more than 2K. What you are looking at is a dynamic, database driven, content-manageable, programmed website with a rich front-end. Are you all saying you'd do that for around 2K? You are crazy.

I've poked around the code, and it is extremely well put together. If you don't have the exactly right team and experience to build this, you won't be able to get it done. Period.

I build sites on this level all the time, and I can tell you from experience, this company probably paid in the 8-10 thousand dollar range. Companies like this don't go with someone that bids 2K, because 2K is a tiny amount of money compared to the capital they have, and they'll get what they pay for if they try to be cheap.

I've seen sites that are worse than this one, that cost 25 thousand dollars to build.

You need to take a lot of things into consideration. Is that site unique? Did the current owner buy a script and tweak it to fit his site? If so that can shave off thousands. If the website has a unique template, unique coding, and unique functionality you are looking at thousands. If that site get's many hits a day, then you can take on even more thousands.
