Div's or Photoshop Slicing

Hi.

I'm just curious to find out what is better, because I always switch my preference between divs and Photoshop slicing. Right now, I'm in a Photoshop phase.

I find Photoshop design & slicing to be 10 times easier than divs. I'm very bad with divs and they always get out of place and there are SO many codes that you need to know in CSS in order to get it to look like you want.

Is there anything wrong w/ slicing in photoshop? Is one more powerful or more useful than another?

Thanks.

Unless you are really short on time, go with the divs because it is much more search engine friendly plus you can do a redesign much easier.
It's also better for those who are visually impaired and use screen readers

While I disagree with those reasons, I do agree that using CSS for your layout and NOT using Photoshop's very ugly code spew is the better way to go. CSS has a learning curve, but it pays off in the end. Anything worth learning always has a learning curve, take the time to study !

Alright thanks. Next site will be in div's. What do you guys think the best tutorial is for it, in your opinion? The one that best lets you experience how to build a site in CSS.

If you have a super hard time with divs, trying using tables to a minimum. I usually use about 90% css in my designs but usually have at least one or two tables. For some applications they are just much easier without any loss in quality. (I know i'm going to get flamed for that)

I'm sure I'll learn it eventually...it's just be difficult finding a really good, basic, simple to understand tutorial showing me an example work.

I agree, I would say DIV's DIV's and DIV's again, all day everyday, but on the offchance that there is something you cant do with a DIV go with a table, or better than that, ask for some help to get it working with a DIV?

In the design world DIV's rule everything due to the fact they are so much easier for re-designing and work better cross-browser.

Yes divs are the best!

Tables are very ugly and unprroffesional and outdated.

The only time I have ever used divs was when I wanted to sit block elements side by side but I didnt want to use float. haha

I just dislike using when float when i dont have to and tables ever.

Div's for sure. I have found that very exact re-assembly of images that have been broken up can be done by using css absolute and relative positioning techniques. I know some will say that is a lot of work to line up each div pixel by pixel, but it's really not bad and it always works well for me across browsers.

Just make a div container with "position:relative" to hold all the "slices" of your image. Then all unique div's(your "slices") within that can be placed with "position:absolute" precisely where you want them.
