I have decided to revamp the look of my home page. I feel my current home page http://littlewigan.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk has far too much text for a front page, so i am creating this new home page http://littlewigan.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/newhomepage.htm which will replace the current one once i am happy with it.

I am having a bit of a problem with at the moment. In IE, the page works fine and sits in the centre of the screen. However, in FF the page aligns to the left but the four tables in the middle of the body stay in the centre. Ideally i would prefer the whole page to align to the centre as it dopes in IE. Any suggestions?

Also, i am concerned the new design with less text will work against me with the search engines. Is this right?

Thanks.

How to Center Your Website (sticky)

Code it to work in FF first, then fix for IE as necessary. If you code it to look right in IE first, chances are it will ONLY look right in IE.

You will want to validate your code. There are numerous errors throughout; some are from unclosed elements, some are from using deprecated code for display that should be defined in CSS. You should also consider linking to your javascript and CSS in external files to keep your code clean and be able to use the script and styles in other pages as well. You're also using a HTML 4.01 DOCTYPE when your code looks more like XHTML 1.0 Transitional. I'd also suggest you consider breaking away from using tables for layout; there's nothing you've coded here that couldn't be easily be done with CSS-based layout.

Regarding your question about less text, search engines aren't so concerned with the volume of text as the RELEVANCE of said text to given search terms.

I know you worked hard on the site but the overall layout and design does not look professional, the site would look better if you got a more professional template.

Hi Adam,
To be honest I don't find that site very easy on the eyes, it's coded in tables as opposed to CSS and looks like something made in microsoft word.

If it's something you're seriously about selling, I would advise you too look into the option of getting it professionally created..

Regards,
Andy
