Hello Everyone,

Slowly but surely my youth groups website is taking form and I am on the last step, Skinning my phpBB forum. I have no idea how or where to start, I have a template that I found that I like, but how do I put it in place.

We're supposed to go live on the 8th or 9th, so please help me out.

Thanks & God Bless,

Josh

if the skin is in a compressed file like a .zip or .rar or .gz, etc extract it, then upload the folder of your new theme to you forums root directory/templates then login to your forums admin panel and under "General Admin" goto "Configuration" and change the "Default Style" setting to match your new theme.

Thats all there is to it. If you made modifications to your board like adding the ability to upload files and such you will need to redo all the mods to work with the new template.

If you need more help just reply here.

you should use a FTP program to upload them to your server. Then you just upload the whole folder, not one file at a time.

Ok, then you need to download a program called an FTP program - FTP = File Transfer Protocol.

an FTP program will allow you to send files directly from your computer to you webhosts server without using the cpanel.

Here are the most common settings for an ftp account when you have CPanel

site: ftp.yoursite.com
user: your cpanel login
pass: your cpanel pass

When the ftp program finishes connecting goto the /public_html/ folder then into your forums dir, then upload the templates folder to the template directory.

here are some ftp progams (Most are free to try): http://www.download.com/3120-20-0.ht...search=+Go%21+

I recomment Ipswitch ftp.

You should be able to find some very detailed tutorials on how to do this on the web. I had to do this same thing awhile back. If you ever need to mod your skin, it isn't as hard as you might think. After you install the skin, you can pretty easily find the images it uses in its directory and edit them from there. Despite what many people say about modding phpBB, dont mess with the code. If you dont know php it is very to screw something up. Just edit the images and delete them from the server and upload the edited ones. This is a pretty good "poor man's" method to mod your own phpBB forums.

(sorry for answering a question nobody asked :P)

I believe that IPswitch no longer has a free version, unless its for education purposes only.
