Ok, I'm having a problem with my website stats. It keeps showing up that I am getting millions of unique hits each day. In reality I'm only getting a few hundred, maybe a thousand on days where we have big events going on. It makes all of my stats pretty much useless. Any ideas what is going on?

The real number of hits is being multiplied by 10 many times.

Maybe if we could get a url/sample stats/stats program/ect... we could help more.

Try another stats program, here's a place to start:

http://php.resourceindex.com/Complet...nd_Statistics/

If you read closely you will see which are the free ones and which are commercial or pay scripts

Hope that helps

1. Hello,

I´m just beginning on this, how can I check the number of visits on my web page.

Why it sometimes multiplies for ten?

Ok, sorry for the lag of info. I figured out what was happening though. I have a top clans site and some porn site keeps entering it and then putting the image that counts hits into some autosurf program that generates tons of hits so that they are number 1. They do it at a bunch of different sites. Anyways, I would delete their account, but they would still have the no longer existent image linked back to my site and that it what was being tracked. I use the stats provided with my host, such as awstats and webalizer.

Ok, first of all tracking "hits" is not a good measure of visitors to your site.
A "hit" is everything on a page, all images, even the page itself. So, if you have a page with 20 images, you have, in essence, 21 "hits" .. and just 1 visitor. Multiply that by the number of pages that 1 visitor views, and you have hugely distorted numbers.

Better to track VISITORS and page views rather that "hits".

I'd recommend switching to Google Analytics for accurate statistics.

Switch to google analytics, or at least use server stats such as awestats (in cpanel) and trace unique visitors to give you a better idea of core visitors.

What site tracking software are you using? Because each tracking software track its information different and this could be the problem.

I would suggest using Google Analytic as they are very up to date and keep very nice detailed stats to help you figure out who and when they are coming to your site.

Have you made sure that your website is not compromised by a nasty porn spammer? There may be a security breach on your site.

Anyway, you can write a small PHP script that would prevent the porn site entering it.
