Hi there,
Please move this to the appropriate forum if I've stuck my nose in the wrong place!

I'll admit, I'm pretty blond when it comes to this website stuff, but I'm willing to learn. I need help, though.

A few years back I bought (myname) dot com and used Yahoo's Sitebuilder software to keep it up, change, update, etc. From what I understand this type of set up has all the files stored on my computer somewhere or something, has an FTP I never understood how to use, etc.

I want to cease my hosting thru Yahoo, it's too much money. A blog will do me just fine.

Q - Is there any way to just have the site I have now, just up, frozen in time, so friends/family can look at the past couple of years, and then link to my blog? We have a long list of travels on there I'd hate to just take down.
If so, how?

And if not... are ALL the files just right here on my computer, and I can just cancel the service and be done with them, without loosing my ability to go see them myself? (does that make sense? sorry!) I don't know if if I have to back anything up 1st, I guess.

Lastly - how do I make my new blog under that same (myname) dot com... will it prompt me, you think? If you have a preference over a blog site, please share. Wordpress? other?

Again, blond. Apologies. I appreciate your help!

If you cancel the Yahoo! hosting the site will just go with it.

From what I recall of the Yahoo! Sitebuilder (rebuilt a site from there several years ago for someone) the only way to get all the site files was to use a "site ripper" to pull all the files to the local machine. WinHTTrack is my "weapon of choice".
You can then set about rehosting the domain name (if you have one) and upload the site to the new host.
