I think I'm going to invest in the student edition, seen as it's about 1/10th of the price normally. I'm just wondering, what is the actual process you have to undergo to prove to Adobe that you are actually a student?

As I will only be a student for a few more months so I wouldn't want to run out of time!

Also, are the student editions just as good as the normal ones or to they lack some of the features?

My friend is also a student, the college provided a url to where all of these different softwares were tremendously discounted, one of them was Adobe Photoshop. My understanding the software is a complete package which I would pay an enormous price for. The link my friend had for his student discount didn't mention a student edition, they were all the full versions of the softwares. Perhaps using your student ID number.
