I recently begun the process of designing my first website. A friend of mine is providing me with some basic knowledge and guidance, but I want to be able to learn more from the ground up.

Can anyone recommend any books that will provide me with the very basics in website design, including description of all the pertinent terminology involved (i.e. MySQL, PHP, etc)? I understand that this alone will not be enough, but I simply want to at least develop a working knowledge of the basics.

I will be using WordPress for my initial site.

Please keep in mind that I am a complete novice, and the reference will need to be as close to layman's terms as possible!

BTW --I am looking to utilize WordPress for my initial site.

Thanks in advance!

Thanks to the both of you. I will be sure to use this forum in the future, but I know so little right now, I don't even know what to ask! Besides, I don't want to clog up the forum with my very basic questions.
