I don't want to start a browser war here, but should I become King my first job would be to put a ban on alternative internet browsers! I don't care which we use, IE, FF Opera, Safari... whatever, as long as there's only one!

I downloaded FF to see how my new forum looks in another browser and the answer is, not good. There are several alignment problems in FF, that look fine in IE

So, my question is this: How in heaven's name do I please all browsers if all the browsers require different coding attributes to look the same??? I have access to only one Custom Style Sheet to control the layout of my forum. If I have a button that in FF is out of alignment, but fine in IE, I can tweak the margins in my CSS to align it properly, but then it will be wrong in IE.

I know there can't possibly be a simply soloution to this, but can anyone point me in the right direction?

Unfortunately, IE is something we still have to deal with, and designing anything using just IE is going at it the wrong way. Design using a standards-compliant browser, such as Firefox, FIRST, then kick IE until it behaves.

ALL browsers do NOT require different coding. There are a number of KNOWN bugs with IE and you can beat them relatively easily. It takes the use of conditional comments to call a separate IE-only stylesheet that contains only those rules needed to force IE to do things the 'right' way. Since IE is the only browser that will pay any attention to conditional comments, you don't have to worry about any other browser.

Correct, that is the best way to approach it, it'll save you a lot of hair-pulling

Until IE8 comes out, which is supposed to, finally, be much more standards compliant, and IE6 dies away, I'm afraid it's going to be the bane of our existence for a while yet.
