I searched around and found someone saying
"you are allowed to place 3 ad units per page (banner, square, skyscaper etc). you are allowed 1 link unit per page."

Is that true? Ive looked through the adsense terms and cant find it saying anything like that.

Also if you put too much adsense for content ads on your page do some not show? Because that is what is whats happening to me i think?

Check the terms or policy page, it's listed on one of them. And yes, they don't usually show if you added too many of the code snippets.

All of what you just typed is the policy, If your pages really have more space that you'd like to use for advertising. Consider trying a service like http://www.buysellads.com

i added 5 ad units and 1 link unit to my page that was why 1 wasnt showing then.
im now using and showing 3 ad units and just the one link unit.

Yep you can, whether you would actually want to is debatable.

The referral units were for getting paid when people signed up for an Adsense account.
They have been retired since August 2008 though, when the Affiliate Network went live

Boy I was really missing their referral system. For me refer system was a cow which was giving good amount of milk. But however now I am trying to get other options from Google, as they are coming with other options as well ... like domain, video and also for feed as well.

well you can actually put 3 ads per unit in every page for example page one has 2 ads per unit then page 2 also has 3 ads per unit.
