Hello,

What is the percentage of internet users who still use IE6? Getting a website looking right for IE 6 is a real hassle. One of the web sites I have, I found that still around 15% of users use IE 6. Not sure how accurate this is.

Love to hear your opinions! Thanks!

well, it'll be different for different people but, if 15% of your visitors are using it, then that is the statistic that should matter most to you.

On willcode4beer.com, it's less than 7%. On rhapsody.com we see over 18% using it, about the same as shown on market share.

The w3schools stats aren't very representative of the global population. There's better global stats available here: http://www.w3counter.com/globalstats.php

To be honest, I have not used IE period unless firefox has a bug "only happened twice" in 3-4 years. However, a lot of people still use IE and think if they download Firefox etc there computer wont work right, crash etc like I first was back in 2002 and new to software. Even though ive used a pc since 2 years old.

It does not matter what you like or want it is your customers choice if you want to keep them.

Wow by the stats it shows that i.e.6 is still nearly as widely used as i.e.7 just goes to show people don't update their browsers when a new version comes out and its important to be backward compatible to older browsers.

The sad truth is, many users don't even know what a browser is

I thought Firefox was the greatest, until I started designing sites.

Since then, I've found numerous bugs on Firefox 3. IE 6 and 7 display some things just fine, but Firefox struggles.

I know that is the opposite of most people's experience, but that's what I've found.

Anyway, back on topic, for the sites I work on, browser use is around 14% IE6 still.
Don't worry, with IE8 coming out soon, IE6 use should drop.

It's very likely you haven't actually found any "bugs" in Firefox. There are bugs in Firefox, but not related to display of webpages under any normal circumstances. What you are experiencing is standard display, by design.

Remember, browers are not limited to IE/Firefox. There is also Chrome and Safari, which are rising very fast, as well as Opera. Chances are, if something displays a certain way in Firefox, it will be exactly the same in those latter three. Therefore, the "bugs" are in your code.

I agree, IE is the browser with the worst compliance with web standards and the most number of bugs and the stupidity of "hasLayout". If it looks 'right' in IE but not in Firefox, then IE is doing it wrong and Firefox is showing you the RIGHT rendering.
