I think it is a Flash Object, but I"m not sure. I really want to incorporate something similar on my site, but with a few small differences. Here's what I need to know...
What was used to create this ap and would it be difficult to create?

You're right, that 'application' is nothing but a Flash file. So, in order to do something similar, you'd have to learn Flash and Actionscripting.

Yes, it is complete flash object.

There are several tutorials out there and applications. I mean this one was most likely designed in Adobe Flash. Now, if you are new to flash you can always download SwishMax. It is a very nice flash application for beginners.

Instead of doing things frame by frame, like you will have to do in Adobe Flash, it does complete animations and allows you to see the number of frames you want to incorporate, and it does it auto for you.

Now, I don't believe you will be able to create this type of application in SwishMax, but it will definitely help you to start to learn and understand Flash.
