Hello! I am seeking help with a site created in Dreamweaver. When I view the code and the layout views, everything looks fine. The site was posted using FTP, and I've edited it with BBEdit since discovering the problem with it. Online on one page there are cap Y's with accent marks above them in the spaces between some words. What the heck do I need to do to get rid of them? I just now tried to copy and paste the text from the site below so you could see what I'm talking about, but when pasted, the "Y's" disappeared and were replaced by cap-height dashes.

Someone here at webmaster-talk kindly uploaded the code for the problem page on his server last night, and it showed up fine, no extra characters where they shouldn't be. Someone else in the "intro" section suggested I post here in the WYSIWYG forum. I've contacted the tech support at the server, Hypermart, and am waiting for a reply from them. Meanwhile, this problem is really bugging me, not to mention the client of the site! Thanks very much in advance for your help AND for your patience with a newbie!

Can you put a link to your site here so we can have a look?

If you are using special characters such as "curly quotes", the long dash (don't know what it's called), the single character elipses (...), etc, then some browsers won't display them properly depending on the character encoding. If the text was typed out on MS Word or some other word processer, it is extremely likely that these characters are the culprit(s).

You will need to find and replace these characters with their ASCII alternative(s).

Your host cannot do anything for you because the problem is in the text on your page(s).
