Frontpage, HTML in text editor or other?

Hi

I posted a thread regarding whether to design my own site or use a host offering the "complete package". The general consesus was to create my own site. I would therefore be interested to know whether you all use a text editor to manually write html or do you use a package such as Frontpage, Dreamweaver or other.

Any ideas much appreciated. I have done programming in the past so i don't mind learning from scratch and HTML seems pretty straight forward, but I want to be able to put a site together as quickly as I can.

I have heard that pages created with Frontpage etc can be much slower than manual HTML pages. Do you think this is an issue.

Many thanks for any thoughts.

I am a fan of Dreamweaver - - good text editor that allows you to quickly create a page then 'clean it up' by tweaking the HTML manually - any changes you make to the HTML can immediately be viewed on the bottom half of the page.

This will probably create a firestorm here but I don't think much of Frontpage - - have picked up a couple of existing websites from customers that were designed in Frontpage - - They are a real mess for me to convert to pure HTML....

i use dreamweaver in "code" mode only... i use it simply because:
1- it's color coded
2- i can access my files directly on the server (don't need an ftp tool)
3- the shortcut with tags and css

that's it... i hand-code everything and i don't rely on the dmx preview. open the file in a browser and check it!

Hi there, Im an HTML hand coder. I prefer it simply because I "know where I am with it". Ive taught Dreamweaver, but found the re-editing of sites I haven't made fiddly, and lack of acceptable javascript. Id stay well away fron Frontpage, as some hosts dont support FP extensions, so check with your prospective host too!
