Hello all,

my first post in the forum ( ) hope someone can help.

Ok here goes,

I have set up a subdomain : support.domain.com but the company hosting my site does not let you configure where the domain should point to - you have to do it yourself. Whenever i visit my subdomain i get a 403 error "You are not authorized to view this page"

Can someone please help me on how to point this subdomain to a folder! I'm pulling my hair out on this one

I'm on a windows box so i cant use .htaccess!

Please help,

SEAN

You need to do the redirection on your hosts server, so when someone types support.domain.com they get sent to domain.com/support which is the folder where you store your support files.

Do you have a control panel such as helm for you account?

If not i'd suggest asking you hosts to do it for you, it's a very simple thing to do which would only take them a couple of minutes to do.

i have set up a folder in my main htdocs folder called 'support' and i still get the error. I have talked to my webhost and they say 'We suggest searching on google for this. We do not offer web design support'!

Any more suggestions anyone?

Yeah change hosts!

Its nothing to do with web design its how the webserver is setup to pass a request for support.domain.com to domain.com/support.

We offer the Helm control panel with our hosting packages and you can do it yourself in that. Literally takes 2 minutes.

Setting up a subdomain is FAR from web design. It's a matter of putting a one line entry in the DNS zone for your domain. Most modernday hosting control panels will allow you to do this quite easily.

As pencer stated, find a new host that knows what their doing.

Sumbdomains have to propogate through name servers for which your HOST controls. Although this can be achieved through most control panels, the action still happens at the nameservers. Have a good look around your cpanel and if no, talk to them again, if the response is unsatisfactory then it is time to find a new host who has heard of service and customer support.

Seriously, this isn't something you can do yourself.
Unless you have a control panel with your webspace that you can log into and enter the DNS entries you'll need them to do it.

I get the feeling they don't have a clue what they are talking about!!

I've pm'd you

Cheers.
