My First Two Designs!

Hello all! I'm kinda new here. Been registered for months, but haven't really used the site. Anyway, here are my fist two webdesigns. I have used Photoshop for the design part. I have some experience with Photoshop and art, so this part wasn't too difficult for me. I've only done the index pages, however, with none of the links working ... as it's only for me and not a client.

This is the first one, I've converted it to HTML and CSS with a working link.

Working Link: http://webtweaker.net/Designs/GreenLovers/index.html

This is the second one. I just made it a few minutes ago in Photoshop. Haven't had the chance to convert it to HTML/CSS.

Please tell me what you think.
Thanks.

EDIT: I forgot to mention that this is the first time that I'm "designing" a website. I have made a website before for my dad and a friend, so I already have some experience with HTML, CSS, and a few other languages and technologies.

Thanks. Do you mean the first or second? And what does this have to with a Mac?

I like the first, althought, I think the buttons should be brown like dirt, what you have now doesn't really play into the theme of it well.

Your second design is clean and simple, I like it.

I would suggest that you do something about the TEXT on the buttons, it's very difficult to read on that 'stone' pattern.

Well everyone tells me that, but I'm a little shocked. I can read it perfectly well.

But I guess if nobody else can, it defeats the purpose. So I'll (reluctantly) change it.

Thanks for all your help.

It's not about what YOU can read. It's about VISITORS who may have any number of visual impairments that would make the text virtually invisible on such a similar background.

Yes, I know, as I already admitted. You're absolutely right.

But I think it's my monitor. Maybe it's more clear or different on my screen than others' ... I dunno.

Looks good to me, but the length seems unecessary. Could you make the Newest Downloads box a modal popup or something?
