Is it me or is oDesk only for those who charge by the hour?

I just signed up and I dont like the way things are set up, are they set up on an hourly basis only?

There's also an option for fixed jobs, but you might not be able to receive lots of responses since payments are not guaranteed, only on hourly basis.

Odesk is all about the hourly. Of course, they are the only game in town that actually guarantees your pay if it is clocked into the system. This is perfect for networking with literally anyone in the world. They also allow buyers to peer at actual screenshots of work, which gives a lot of assurance to the buyer side also.

I know people that get by just fine on the fixed assignments, though. That system definitely needs to be improved, though I don't think they'll fix it soon if it isn't in their best interests. After all, they have such a good angle on the hourly gigs.
