Hi im new to website design. I am busy creating a flash games website and need to know what kind of hosting would suit me.

I plan to mostly direct to other games sites, with only a select few games (at most 10) hosted by myself. How much bandwith would I use approx ? Can shared hosting with unlimited transfer handle this ?

I spoke to a few webhosts this morning but it seems it ranges from shared to VPS
Thanks for your help!

How long is a piece of string??

It depends on how much traffic you get, how many game plays you get, the size of the games you host, etc.

Do you have any rough figures for this?

Here is what I suggest you should do...

1) find a reliable shared hosting provider. I have used about 5 paid and hundreds of free. DONT USE FREE especially for a flash website. Flash is a more intense application and requires more resources than most free hosts will or can provide. If they can there is a lot of advertising.

Paid hosts used:

Lunarpages
Host Gator
Go Daddy
Webz Pro
"there was another one"

I would recommend them in this order:

Webz Pro
GoDaddy "24/7 support, over all very good, never an issue"
Host Gator
Lunar Pages

2) watch your website and your traffic carefully, watch for surges, downtime etc. When your website is starting to become constantly slow and is not downtime / your host look into VPS from a reliable provider such as The Planet "I believe they offer VPS".

3) Once a VPS is not enough use The Planet for a semi-dedicated or dedicated hosting provider. "Average $100-$300 /month "

I currently run a flash game website - www.decent-gaming.com
and, in all honesty, you dont need a great lot of space and bandwidth at all.

I really dont see the need for a VPS. I use shared hosting at Galaxy-Web Solutions
