Hey guys.

I've gotten some viewers to my site that said it was: to bright, colourful and hurt their eyes.

So i listened. I created a second home page, and I want you guys to decide which one you would rather look at; which one is more enjoyable to see.

But keep in the mind the new one (the less colorful one) is just a prototype of what it could be.

Original: http://www.tptcomics.com/index.html
Prototype: http://www.tptcomics.com/teststuff.html

Tell me what you think. Thankyou for your time, I think this is the right forum. Also please include any tips to help improve either designs.

Regards, Pithdog.

I don't think the original is too bright. I actually prefer it and think it works better with the topic of your site. However I can understand how your audience is going to prefer a darker background. Again given the topic many readers may simply prefer darker for all sites.

To me your original design has more character, though I do realize the second isn't a fully developed design yet.

One thing I would suggest in either design is to make the whole design more cohesive. It looks more like a bunch of parts, but not really a whole design if that makes sense.

Not too long ago I wrote a series of posts on the basics of design you may want to look at. The basic principles are fairly simple, but doing a few things like making sure different elements in your design align with other elements goes a long way toward giving your design a more finished look.

I don't think the first one is bright at all. The background is slight overwhelming, but it is fine for your site.
