Great article, especially the mix of opinions in the comments below it.

I believe graphic designers should have a basic understanding of html/css at the very least. That doesn't mean that a designer has to do any coding. It just means that designers can create their work knowing that the coding will be possible without "back and forth" debate with the coder who insists on saying "that can't be done". It's bad enough that we have to have those debates with the clients who don't know jack about design/coding but want it all to work.
