Hey im thinking of creating a website where you can post products and buyers can look at them, obviously like ebay and autotrader. I need your opinion on a great domain name? The only one i can think of is fastsell.com. Any good?

I like it, but I don't think that it is descriptive enough.

What kind of things are you planning on selling on the website? If you are selling let's say books, then you probably should make the domain name fastsellbooks.com. If you are selling anything and everything that is legal to sell online then I would recommend a domain like fastsellanything.com. If your website is about selling cars, then I would name it fastsellcars.com. That would give the person seeing or hearing the domain name a better idea of what your website is about without having to go to the website to find out what your website is selling.

My domain name examples contain the keyword books and cars which is very important for high search engine rankings.

Sell is also a keyword, but not as good as the keywords sell books or sell cars.

I hope what I said makes sense to you. If you go to my inexpensive website critique site, located in my signature, there is a page about picking a great domain name.

Those are definitely not on the market...

A good tool to use when looking for domains is http://www.bustaname.com

The database it accesses for the domain names is a little dated, but for the most part it should be accurate.

It sounds like you're setting up a classified ads "Items for Sale" type site. You might try registering a domain that indicates your niche then ends with "classifieds"

For instance, if you're targeting a particular community you might try mytownclassifieds

By the way, amazingdeals.com doesn't have a home page. It might be available or it might be dormant. If it's not available you can do a whois search to see who owns it. If you really like it and they're not using it, you might be able to buy it from them.

Here is the WHOIS for amazingdeals.com: http://whois.domaintools.com/amazingdeals.com

Another important factor in domains is brandability... Can you give it a mascot or have an idea for a great logo to go with it?

thanks for the link.
And I was think monkeycheap.com, since its "brandable" and I can put a monkeys face for the o in monkey as the logo. But should I use the word "cheap"? It makes it seem like users post bad quality items.

a good name is often important. But I think it could be arued. Look at the success of www.craigslist.com. Not really descriptive is it?

Monkeycheap would be fine even with cheap as long as the monkey face is cartoonish I think.

I think you are failing to realize that almost every name you could think of is TAKEN. You can't just come up with a name and assume it is available. Its better to do it in reverse. Type in names in Godaddy for example and see if they are available. It's crazy how few names there are left.

Yes it's a very competitive sector... I think you should start to work on such a website, you will lose your time... there are many other offers on the market.. Sorry

Amazingdeals sounds really good, and descriptive enough. I just hope it isn't taken yet. Monkeycheap sounds catchy and provocative too. Both sounds great but if you want a more serious image, go with the first one (although monkeycheap sounds more fun). Either way, let us know what you got and tell us how you do. Good luck!

Maybe you should make sure the domain is attracting and it grabs peoples attention.
