which is the easiest way or software to edit a template without coding? I wish to purchase a psd template to build my site and I am being told that I should get Dreamweaver or Photoshop or similar? I have never used any of those softwares so I would like to know the best way to go here before purchasing the template? Thanks.

A PSD is a visual template only, and can only be opened by Photoshop or an equivalent application. This does not have anything to do with the final product of a webpage, except that it could be sliced to create one. Please note that Photoshop should not be used to export HTML.

If you're going to be working with a Photoshop file, you're going to need Photoshop, or MAYBE Photoshop elements to edit it. Not sure if GIMP reads PSD files, I've never used it. GIMP is FREE.

No way I'd spend the kind of money Dreamweaver costs unless you're going to be doing this A LOT. And to think you can do all of this without ANY coding is just not realistic. Dreamweaver still puts out some nasty code if you're not knowledeable enough to handle it's output.

Just like LadynRed says, forking out a lot of money just to be able to edit a PSD is not a good way to go. The problem with that is you not only need Dreamweaver but you will also need Photoshop. Both of those programs cost a big chunk of change, and if you do not know how to use either program, you will find yourself at a loss. Mind you, there are a lot of tutorials out there which can help you.

The truth is, I would like to encourage you to get into seeing how both programs work but I don't want to tell you to spend the money and you get frustrated to a point where you think you've thrown your money away.

If anything, take a look on youtube for example and type in "photoshop to dreamweaver" or something to that affect, that way you'll be able to see what it takes to actually make use out of those PSD's in a web format
