This is the wrong place for reviews, but I'll say this:

1 - validate your code - you have a ton of errors
2 - dump the tables for layout, you don't need them
3 - make the text legible, right now the text in the body is just too small for readability.

Thanks for your words.
W3C CSS Validator results for http://glixe.net/ (CSS level 2.1)

Congratulations! No Error Found.

And tables? I have one td to set the background image, the white square with the drop shadow. Everything else is css.

The text in the "body" is not meant to be read - it's lorem ipsum and it's part of the "featured project," and the screenshot in the featured project section will change whenever I put a new site up.

raekwon, what is your goal for this site? just to show off your skill set or to actually sell clients on this design? i'm curious because generally people want a working site which offers all the goodies they would expect, if thats the case then perhaps you should consider reworking the site. but i do not know what your intention is

I realized that as well. When I first looked at the site, I can't really tell what the site is all about, what it offers or what it is really for. I believe that if you are selling "design" services, you should at least make your own site attractive and well designed in the first place.

Hello Nick,

Yes you did pass in the CSS validator with no errors or warnings, but in the HTML validator you have 19 errors and this is a HTML document as well a CSS document. I agree with LadynRed about the text, not very legible, although you did mention it was to be changed or not to be read. However you did ask for our opinions on the whole package, best of luck to you.

And why do you need a table for that ?? Use a div and put the background image in as a background on the div, no need at all for a table!

Ouch! The text font of your site is not user-friendly. Change it to a standard one that even an old people can read that.

Hey Raekwon,

Glad to hear that you set up a site and got a client right away!
It took me quite a while to get my first client! So kudos to you!

I like white over red, it doesn't hurt the eyes and a very nice constant.

Some things I would *** is on the "Glixe Web Design" logo (the black bubble) I would make it a link to your home page, that is a standard on every site; when you click on the logo you go to the start of the site.

Also try to consider a different font for your title.. its a bit 'child-ish'

Overall good start! Gratz on the site and hope to see a lot of progress in the next couple of weeks

P.S. Good luck on the interview!

How about some rounded corners for your design? The boxy look really isn't attractive and not used much anymore.

What's the point of your home page? Why can't they just click on your portfolio to see your projects. Make your landing page your portfolio if you want your design to be the first thing the visitor sees.

People use featured projects to make sure the visitor doesn't miss out on the work they have done when they have their landing page as "About Me" or some page with a decent amount of content. Good luck with your client.

Thanks a lot for all the replies.

Yeah this portfolio site really isn't what I was hoping for when I was thinking about it, and IE totally ruins it as well. Putting up a new one (or a temp one til I can get a really good one) up soon.

Not bad, I'd recommend putting some forms on the contact page. What mood are you trying to set when a visitor visits your web page? A "business" mood or a "portfolio" mood? I'm not knocking your design, I think it is good in the sense that it's simple and straight forward. However, if your coming from a "business" standpoint I would re-evaluate the site. I would also set up email on your server, or a forwarder so you would have user@glixedesign.com instead of your personal email, or a "gmail" address. Those are just my thoughts, and in no way am I knocking your site, to each their own. Good luck!
