Hello All,

Thank you in advance for your help!

I recently edited a free website template using Notepad++ for my commercial cleaning business. This was my first attempt at HTML. The website is far from complete as most links have not been created yet, but the current website was so much more appealing than the copy and paste template 1and1 gave me so I threw it up anyways.

My question is when I load my website from the computer I designed it on everything works perfect, but when I load the webpage from any other computer (6 so far) I get an IE error message,

"you have removed or modified the link to our website. in acccordance with our terms of use you must keep intact and visable any notice accompanying this product"

My guess is I must have removed a link in the HTML doc to the template provider??? But I still see it at the bottom of the page.

Also the flash animation at the top of the screen has moved down and sits ontop of the menubar instead of above.

Anyone know exactly why these problems happen and why they dont happen on the computer the website was designed on?

Thank you again, any help is appreciated.

Ryan

Sorry I guess it would help if I included the link

in the .css you took out the: /* CSS Credit: http://www.templatemo.com/ */ what ever information you got rid of in there you need to put back in. probably the author of the template and whatever information he/she put in there.

I downloaded the original CSS from templatemo.com again to match it up with my edited one. The original has this at the top

/*
CSS Credit: http://www.templatemo.com/
*/

I double checked my CSS and it has the same. This is the only message pertaining to the Designer in the CSS.

Could me adding the flash at the top have screwed things up?

Thanks again for the help!

It's possible that the Flash screwed it up. Try removing it or putting it somewhere else on the page and see if that fixes things. If it does then you'll know what the problem is. Also, you can try asking the designers of the template since they probably know the most about how it works.

Neither CSS nor HTML itself will pop up such a message. I turned off javascript and the error message stopped coming up. Although I see NO scripts in the code at all. Your <embed> tag is incorrect and not closed.

It's embedded with the tempalte in another file... I also turned off JS and didn't pop up. But it's somewhere within the CMS checking the credentials of the css file. I also have a request of not "hacking" the template and removing the script. The person has the right to have credit for his/her work. It'll also save you in legal hassles.

I figured as much, however, I downloaded a couple of those free templates to take a look, and didn't find ANY terms of service that hinted that ANY changes would be met with such an annoying nag. The ask that you leave the credit intact, but that's the extent of it. Other than that they say you're free use it and alter it!

I would suggest re-downloading the template and installing it with no changes. There is no script from what I can tell, so this is a mystery.

I see the error on Firefox as well, so it's not IE.

THe original CSS has only one link to the designer which is located in the footer, I left that and I couldnt find any other credits. I removed the flash graphics and everything works fine now. Gonna redownload the flash to see if I can get it to work properly.

What would be the proper way to embed the flash file.

Thanks again for all the help.

Look in the stickies for the better ways to put the flash in your page.

I have to say, if I download a FREE template and leave in the link for CREDIT, which is ok by me, but decide to make a few minor changes in the CSS and get a NAG for my tweaks, I'd dump the template and go somewhere else, there are thousands freely available without those limitations and sneaky scripts.
