Hey, I'm currently working on a new Design forum, I'm looking for some tips to making it active.

So far I have:
  • Free Content (Post Free Stuff) // People Love this.
  • Good Design (Make a good design) // Attracts attention.
  • Catch Domain/Slogan
  • No ads
Thats all I have so far, looking for tips.

Maybe you should post on competitor boards that cover your category and show off your knowledge.

If I read your posts regularly and found you to be knowledgeable then I would add you to my buddy list and we can be best friends.. heh, but seriously, I would then consider clicking on your profile or your link and see what you offer/do.

Otherwise you're just another person with a sig link trying to promote which is not a bad thing but many people (like me) do it.

I use to be lead poster at a gaming forum 4 years ago answering queries and making discussions.. then eventually I started up my own board and many of the people from the first board came over which was very effective because we had immediate buzz and lets face it, a smaller and active forum is much better than a large bloated one.

So yeah, might as well start kicking some knowledge about.

So your saying a person can't promote and ask a few question?
I'm not only here to promote, I'd like to get a few idea to add on to my site which will also help me out.

I don't have a problem with it, as long as your first objective is discussion, not promotion. You didn't start by linking to anything or asking for a review, so it gets a pass for now.

You stated "no ads" "good design".. etc.

If you want, I can advise you to have a good design and have no ads but you have that covered. I was just pointing out a more effective way to advertise and that is by showing why knowledge is power..

Your at a design forum right now. Why don't you look at the resources in front of you at this forum?
My opinion, the people make the forum. I go to the forum to gather information and have good discussions with intelligent people. You get good members at your forum, you get more members at your forum.

The most important tip is to already have content. If you have no posts and threads, do not bother advertising.

Call some friends or pay people to post. If you're going to pay people per post, do 10 cents a post. Limit them of course, but it is a far deal for both you and the poster.
