Hey all,

I'm still new to running websites, and I've just been wondering about the pages on the site I have being updated. When I change a page I'm having to hit refresh in firefox to see it, but what happens when others check back to the site? Like if I update something on a page and someone who's been to the site before checks back with the same temp files in their browser, how do they know it's been updated unless they refresh too?

I'm just wondering how this works because it's really bugging me.

I'm sure that browsers have some sort of tracker that compares the file on the server to the one in its temp. If the temp file is dated 16/07 and the one on the server is 17/07 then it would automatically update it.

Sometimes it is buggy but this is very rare and I don't think you should stress yourself over it as it is an automated and reliable process.

Every file browser retrieved has an expire time. After that it will reload the file from server instead of get from the local cache.

Rao,

Every browser has a default cache which uses. How much of space in MB browser uses, depends of browser, average used space is about 30 MB.

If cache is zero page is downloading slower but every change is visible and vice verse.
