Hi there I am new to the forum and a little nervous...however I do need some help so I hope you will be gentle with me.
I have just built a site for a client which is promoting property abroad and the client wants to be able to update the images of the property on a regular basis without having to go through me which suits us both.
Can anyone offer any solutions??

You need to build a database backed website, where your client can upload the images.

Or try suggesting Coppermine
It is freely available.

One thing, You cannot charge your client for an opensource software. But you can get your money for the service you offer.

Hope this helps.

While a database design is nice it is also very complex - - Contribute allows your client to pull the page off the web, update it on their computer and then re-post the page - - If set up properly you can protect the areas of the website are complex or that would be easy for your client to 'clobber' and allow them access to only those areas that they need to update.

Hiya....ok...Ive got a few suggestions!

If you have built this site in say, notepad using HTML, or perhaps DreamWeaver, show the client the source code of the area they want to be able to update. (when the site is open, go through "view/source") They should be able to see the tags which hold the images. //<img src="xxxxx.jpg">// whatever....and the dimensions of each image.

The easiest method, is to get them to open the original file in notepad, (right click it and choose "open in") alter the name of the image, and dimensions where applicable, and then upload the images and the amended file, through FTP. This will overright the previous image.

feel free to pm, if thats not quite clear, ok!..
cheers, scotia

I believe if you go with the Coppermine you cannot charge for the actual software, but you can charge for the installation of it.

Your best bet may to be hire someone (at your clients expense) to write a simple upload script for you. We could probebly hook you up for less then $50 if the work isnt to detailed. Contact me sometime if you're interested at http://www.revo.com.au/contact

There are several scripts feely available that will suit your needs hotscripts.com for one. You can charge to implementing the script, but not for the script itself. If you don't know scripts or databases, then you might be asking for more work than you can handle. Then I would setup a way for clients to be able to edit listings themselves.
