Does anyone know of a utility to find large files on one's server?

I'm a pack-rat type which often poses problems w/ my available space on my account at my hosting server.

i often upload large files to share w/ others but in many cases, they only need to be there temporarily but i also often forget to remove them.

to save myself time during such cleanup, i'm looking for a utility (or perhaps a feature that might be included in one of my editors, like Dreamweaver) that will scan my web site files from root directory to the depths of all directories, looking for files of say-- 500kb or larger for example.

is anyone aware of the existence of such a utility, or feature?

thanks,
JS

Moved your thread here (the Suggestions forum is for topics relating to the Webmaster-Talk forum itself).

If you are searching your hosts server, and it runs *nix, then you can SSH or Telnet to the server (may have to ask your host to enable it for you) and run a command like this:
Code:
find /home/your_user/public_html -size +500k [RET]

wow...
hmm... sounds complicated

are you suggesting that this will only work if my host runs a *nix server?

it's been a long time since i've telnet'd anything-- probably since way back before Al Gore even invented the Internet!

will i have to d/l software to do that, or is there a feature in XP or Firefox maybe?

this doesn't sound like a route i'm looking for anyway. i'm spoiled. i want a nice GUI w/ a cool report of file sizes and all kinds of bells and whistles-- okay, i can probably do w/out the bells.
seriously though...surely someone has written such a program by now!

c'mon, ware-heads... where are you?

I'll whip up an app to do just that for $50 bucks.

If it is on a remote host, then your pretty much out of luck. The fastest and most efficient way to do it (AFAIK) is with a command like that at the terminal. And if there was an app that does it, you'd might as well go and download PuTTY and run the command yourself.
