Template Questions (*Need Money)

I have been making templates with my friend for the past two years, most of
these have been for personal use and I would have never tried selling them
until last week where I was told that I need a certain amount of money for
rent NOW because the landlord cannot wait another week; being laid off I
resorted to my one talent that people seem to enjoy a lot.

I had sold a template a few days ago at a forum called "DigitalPoint" to
someone there interested in offering hosting, I made it custom for him
and he paid me around $40.00 for the archive including the files, he was
very happy with my result and told me I should begin selling these..
~ especially if I am in this sort of jam.

I am here wondering what it would take for someone like you to purchase
one of my templates, do you look for specific things like it Validating (w3)
or do you look for subtle things like it having organized folder layouts.

From preference everything I had ever made includes a .PSD file
and an organized CSS + Folder layout and needs to be validated.

...

Since I am about to be evicted because of something stupid (day late rent) I
need these sold as soon as possible. I was thinking about using $40.00 as a
set price but I know some people find that overpriced for a template.

What would you price these at, I only have sixteen (unique) but cannot wait
any longer to get these sold. I was thinking to price them at around $10.00
each; $100.00 all together but need your help on deciding.

Here are two templates I have created, both come with associated PSD and
HTML files and have valid CSS/HTML with w3 traditional.

Too long; didn't read.
I have been laid off from work and need quick money, so I am selling my (16) templates cheap ($10/ea) and need to know if someone like you would buy them.

try to remember "like you" could be someone visiting this forum designing their first website or someone who is an experienced designer and probably seldom, if ever, purchases a template.

I would think validating, table-less code for one is important. Also, well commented code for those who are a little familiar with web design and would like to be able to control some colors, or other minor things.

Are you gearing them specifically for different types of businesses? The template you have shown is really nice, but maybe only for that type of business. How about one for a contractor, real estate, musicians/bands(always looking for a deal) etc.

Sorry to hear about your situation. Offer a great deal on a website based on one of these templates where the client can customize on craigslist or similar for free. There are tons of people on their looking for a great deal and all you'd have to do is change some text and add an image or two?

Best of luck

I have gathered all the unique templates that I have made or helped make (with Derrons permission of course) and I can see that most of these are for either website hosting or a general artistic blog design. I know these have been worked on with updates over years and that we will never use them and I will probably never have time to sell them - but I need quick cash now before its too late.

!!
I think you're being too greedy asking for $40 for a web template, sliced and XHTML+CSS compliant. This is just not fair on the consumer.

In relation to your question as to whether I would buy one or not - well, of course I would at that price and needed a template since there are companies and individuals that make THOUSANDS for the same type of job (NOW do you get my choice of emoticons above?).

I guess you have a real good price going on at $10 per template at package price otherwise $40 per single is still pretty **** good.

why don't you try some freelance websites such as rentacoder.com or scriptlance.com or the marketplace here? Good luck with your sales!

Why don't you start an HTML template site so that everyone can download them, and it will cost them $40 dollars for a membership (all themes) or $20 per theme.

Or you can sell each template so they can have a unique design for quite a bite of cash, depending on how good your coding is. I have seen unique ownership wordpress themes for sale that were decent and cost $2500. I am not saying you should necessarily expect many sales from that, and like I said depending on how good they are, but it will still help pay off your rent.
