Hello.. I am a neophyte to the web designing world..
Can anyone please help me on what am I going to use as a substitute for dream weaver? Any open source program that is as effective as dreamweaver?
I still don’t have enough resources to buy a licensed program that is why I am looking for alternatives.. if there are any..
Thanks.

I highly, highly, highly recommend NOT using ANY website generator. I really think you should dig in to learning hand code. Those generators may make websites fast, but you'll end up not knowing how to do "exactly" what you want with every website and sloppy, sloppy code.

All you need is free:

e - text editor is a great tool (my favorite by far) but the thing is you need to know how to code.

It generates nothing for you it just has the built in Syntax and many great tools.

A free tool which you could compare it to is notepad++ which is probably one of the best code editors that is free. Or you could just stick to wordpad. I would avoid Notepad because of its lack of wordwrap.

Here's an open source alternative to Dreamweaver - http://www.aptana.com/

Basically, when it comes to coding pages, I am very much used to do it using notepad.

NOOOO!!!!

You should never ever ever ever ever even bring up the name Frontpage when it is a recommendation for a tool to use for coding.

Unless of course you have the words "Do not use" in front of it.

Or if you are recommending a tool that outputs bad code that only works for internet explorer (if your lucky).

Start with W3schools.com + Notepad and that's all no need to get any WYSISYG editor

I encourage you to learn using notepad. Afterwards, you will be able to use any editor.

Don't use notepad, it has bad formatting.

Use wordpad because it has textwrap.

Or you should go with an alternative like e - text editor. Or one of my favorite recently discovered code editors is InType. Both E and InType are code editors just like textmate for macs and have great formatting and syntax highlighting.

What's all this about not being able to word wrap with notepad.

Go to Format and tick Word Wrap - simple.

Hmm I haven't found anything which is good and powerful as dreamweaver. There are plenty of nice free HTML editors but none of them good as Dreamweaver.

Oopss... I said wordwrap, I mean it just doesn't format properly. Here I will upload some pictures.

These are pictures of the index.php file from the default wordpress theme

With E - Text Editor

With Wordpad

With Notepad without word wrap

With Notepad with word wrap

Dreamweaver is unique in its each facility and user friendly, but if it is your compulsion to use other than MS Frontpage is much batter
