Im talking about a quality looking site with a good domain name, software and servers. Kind of like yahoo. How much does it cost them to run their stuff?

How much does it cost Yahoo to run their site? Well, if they just ran their site normally, the domain would cost around $10 a year, and the hosting would be about $10 a month.

Of course, however, they host all of the stuff on their own servers, they hire people to update and manage much of their content, there is a maintenance cost for all the servers... I really have no idea. It'd be pretty expensive.

For you, however, it should only cost around $130 a year, provided that you don't already have hosting set up. There's an awful lot of free software out there, so making the site itself should be no problem.

You can start and run a good site with less than $100. Your time and knowledge is as important as funds to get a site off the ground.

for someone who doesn't know how to do it themselves it will cost a few thousand dollars to setup and then ongoing hosting costs. If you are talking about a major site, facebook for example looses money all the time because of their growing hosting costs.

Agree.. And it also depends on where you host your website.. Probably, the host will provide you most of the softwares you need to run your site.

I got my businesses site up for $127 for a year. On top of that you may want to pay for advertising to get more viewers and that cost is up to you.

A good quality website can cost you under $100 to run. But your soft costs are your time to make the site.
