Tim, you can have that one above you with my blessings. I have a few left over from 1997 and it's either give them away or have a garage sale.

bu..bb..b.b..bbbutt the reflective mr.sheen shine looks so d@mn good!
*sighs* I'm guilty of 2 and a half (half because I think black backgrounds is what is NEEDED rather than wanted at times).
Great read though.

I guess I did this one wrong, then. I didn't just flip the image over, I took another photo from another angle and manipulated the can graphics so the reflection looked like it was SUPPOSED to:
That was my Web 3.0 logo...had to have a cute cuddly dolphin, and this one was, uh, caught in the 'Net.

I also wanted to add my two cents about MySpace, it is fine if you have one but I still don't think it should replace a web site.

Hey, it was nice when it lasted when you had even the average joe come up to you and ask you for a myspace design.
Ahh...those were the days...
if only facebook and twitter offered powerful customisation - that'll be a nice money spinner!¬ but the programmers are now having their pot of gold.

1. un-cropped images (logo's uhhhhh) when you can't see the logo's sub-heading because it's some where off the page.
2. use of non-transparent text images (graphic fonts) really sucks.

This one can really get so annoying sometimes
Quote:
Intro with No Skipping Option
This design trend forced visitors to sit through an impossibly long (no matter the length) introduction to your site with no means of escape. The trend supposed that every visitor to your site was a first-time one, and never took into account the possibly of repeat visitors.

Wow. I'd clearly forgotten about these guys. lol
The funny thing is, most of these trends she's talking about were reaaaally popular when I started working online and with web design (late 90s) (except for the black backgrounds; couldn't call no-color a trend, lots of use for it).
I hate to admit it, but I've used Comic Sans more times than I would like to admit that year. I remember thinking -- "Wow, what a cool font. Why isn't everybody else using it?"
And I think I have a coffee cup on one of my production design sites now, honestly. Better, uh..
... you know, I have some things I have to, uh...
... I'll be right back.

LMFAO I like how she thinks she can write an article bashing trends that when used correctly can make pages look great, great, when I wouldn't even give her website a GOOD. She needs to add picture backgrounds that repeat and then take her own advice.
I don't like her header (at certain sizes it blends with background making it so you can't read it. Same with her links when you mouseover they turn blue, her bkgrnd has blue clouds making it hard to read.
"Jacqueline is an artist and a writer who spends an inordinate amount of time playing Super Nintendo and watching Star Trek."
Maybe thats why she thinks reflective objects and black backgrounds shoudn't be used..
There are lots of things I agreed with..ok most of the things..and many that she left out, but "black is out" really??..
That's all. This rant may have been caused by my needing to post in the Graphics contest forum But who knows..
