Interesting article. Designing for web and mobile is a great strategy to increase the number of phones your site is available over. An easy solution is to create a specific css file for the various smart phones. If you still want to get an application fee you can create an application that opens up a web browser and hides the url.

Very interesting. Creating sites that display well on mobile phones is a very good thing to be good at. It is only growing and will eventually be to the point where everyone has those capabilities.

a good idea. in general. now there is a compatibility issue - "making CSS" for each client - hm, what else?

Less say I just cobbled together a quick site working in conventional browsers, opened it in IE on Windows Mobile and it does not work... yes I use javascript, doing some ajax lookups. my prob.. maybe

what is supported, what is not supported by browser, by platform... it's a big mess. or lots of oppotunity maybe :-)

This is a great idea. Internet freak who are always on the go can now check their email via their mobile phones without an appearance issue.

However, we are yet to know of its compatibility.

Be aware that some device browsers may downsize the image to fit within the screen width. Wide images may therefore become illegible. JavaScript support is hit or miss, more ‘miss’ than ‘hit’ currently. Quick-fix handheld stylesheets do little to address the context of being mobile, e.g. providing users with information relevant to their mobility.

Great idea but I agree with what shubh said. It could really get messy with compatibility issues.

Mobile surfers are increasing on a big stage with 3g and other internet compatible mobiles available
most of the niche sites gets huge traffic from mobile surfers like many like to read news from mobile or download stuff for their cellphones and more...

forgive me for being a novice, but am I to understand that if our website looks ok on our computer screens it may not look ok when viewed on a cell phone?

is that correct?

Correct

resolutions are much smaller (obviously), My phone (Nokia N95) for example, is 240x320, so if you have designed your site to work at 1600x1280 I'm going to have a lot of scroling to do!

I think it's definitely a good thing to look into for the future, what with new screen resolutions coming out to play with. PSPs, iphones, who knows what else is down the line! It's all exciting stuff!

I recently started taking a bit of interest in mobile web development.though am not equipped with much knowledge on it till now...but this article was a great help..very informative..came to know a lot interesting facts and issues.thanks for sharing
