Web cam incorporated into website

Greetings,

I have a question on incorporating a web camera into my web site. My website is used for our farm where we sell our products. What I'd like to do is install a remote outdoor video/web camera and create a place on my web site where visitors could view the farm in real time.
It would also allow us to "check" on the farm when we are not there.
I have researched on my own but do not really know what I need to look for as far as equipment or software. If anyone has any advice for me I'd sure appreciate it.

I hope I have put this thread in the right forum. If not, my apologies.

For equipment I think you just need any camera and a way to connect that camera to your computer.

I'm not sure how you go about setting things up on your site to broadcast a stream 24/7. I think it's going to get expensive to try and host that yourself so you may want to look into 3rd party services like Ustream to handle the streaming part. That might mean you won't be showing the stream directly on your site, but it might still be the better option.

Thanks for the input. I am not looking to stream video, but rather just capture an img say every 30 seconds or so. Kind of like some of the nature type websites. What I am really looking for is the particulars as to what type of camera, hardware, and software that I might need. If anyone has incorporated this into their website, I'd like to hear from them.
Thanks

I am sure there are easier ways to do this but In the surveillance world we use Ip addressable cameras and port forward to them. So the public Ip address of the camera would be what you would link to on your website and they would see what was going on at the farm. I hope this helps.

Easy, set up the camera, get a justin tv account, broadcast it and get the code and put it in yoursite.

There are web cam's which you can hook up to your internet and access from around to world to check up on what's happening, but I think a lot of them are in the security camera section as oppose to web cams.

what OS are you running? If Windows you can pretty much use any main stream camera and it will contain software to install and you will find examples of how to use it. If your using linux on the other hand, you will need to do some homework before you purchase the cam to make sure it will work with your linux distro. Same goes true with macintosh as linux.
