Forums-only site versus Full-featured site

I run a website that is comprised of forums only (we run phpbb3). If you type our domain, it goes directly to the forums list. There are no other pages, features or options besides the forums.

I want to start expanding the site to include content such as:
Articles
Blogs
Knowledge Base
A good home page (in lieu of forums index page)

I have experience with Drupal, and the built-in forum (even using the Advanced Forums module) and compared to phpbb3, the Drupal forum is severely lacking.

What is the best way to take a forums-only website and expand it to a full-featured site? I want to keep my existing phpbb3 forums intact if at all possible. The phpbb3 "style" I use looks good to me, but that is as a forums-only site. I don't think the style would look good for a full-featured site. No matter how I integrate the phpbb3 forums into the new site, I want the style/theme to be the same.

Thanks!
