Hi all,

I'm looking for a CMS type of software that I can use to populate some pages of our website. The basic idea is to allow our staff to add content to the site through a browser administrative panel. Our news staff would post local stories and other news items on the news pages. Sports would do the same on the sports page, etc....

The system we are currently using is a bit basic, poor media functions, etc..., and we have outgrown it. It was phpFreeNews and is now out of developement.

I have noted Drupal, Joomla and Mambo but they appear to be designed more for complete sites and not friendly to simply including (php includes) content to existing pages. Ideally I see creating a category for each page and using a category specific include in the page's body.

I'm currently experimenting with using Wordpress as the adminstrative backend and it works fairly well. However I am a bit suspicious of looming pitfalls when using software in ways it was not intended.

If there are any users of the above mentioned software do think it would be feasible to use them as I describe? Does anyone know of another piece of software that is more along the lines of what we need?

Any thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated! Thanks so much!

If you're looking for "simple" but robust you might want to consider MODx in addition to WordPress.

MODx is actually pretty hot. It's easy to convert existing sites over to it as well keeping the old look and feel.

I'm a WordPress person. What you describe seems easy enough to set up in WordPress. You do have to know how or hire someone to set it up or you. What you describe though could be set up on WordPress.

If those are too complex for you, wordpress is a good option. A plugin for role management, and review some of the enhancements for multi-author sites. It should work fine. Most of the better or larger wordpress blogs/sites are now multi author / cms focused, and the wordpress core software is moving in that direction.
