How important is it for me to have sketches of the various pages of my website when I go to the programmer? I'm currently working on my site and I'm hand drawing the homepage and other important pages.

Certainly having sketches would be good when talking to a designer, but to a programmer they are probably next to useless.

There are some software in market you can use for the sketch. like Axure (google it ) . there you will able to make the wire frame and then you can give this sketch to the designer not to the programer, so the designer can make your design

Getting a basic idea is all you need. Because if your programming you just want to make sure that things are going to fit where they need to be. Detailed sketches really arn't useful if your not going to be paying attention to them when it comes time to program

Hi, there are something called as Wire frames, where in you can design what exactly you need to do for creating a website. Dats definitely a good idea to draw sketches, but its only beneficial for a designer or flash guys to deal with but not with a coder.

Try checking it with the help of Wire frames. I once have had to work on this technique with my team so i think this would work fin9 for you.

I think drawing sketches of your site is a great idea. I am in school majoring in web technologies. I am currently taking a Dreamwaver class, and one of the things they suggest is to make a sketch and a flow chart of your site. This helps with design layout and functionality of your site. As you are sketching the layout you can think about what coding techniques you will be using. Great Idea!

Im not a pro, but when I studied C++ i think the first thing we learned were flowcharts. It can help in many ways, and if youre hiring a professional by $/time then the less time they take the more money you save.

Through Sketching you can show your basic need to the designer but if you are developing a full fledged website then you have to go through SDLC model.
