I used dreamweaver a little back in the 90s or early early 2000's to edit pages, but at the time I still preferred to simply write the HTML.

Now, i havent edited pages in a long time or even done web dev, so nowadays things are a lot more complicated. HTML still serves a great purpose, but it seems like there is a lot more to know about page optimization and making pages search engine friendly.

i was wondering therefore, are there any good free editors out there to handle not-too-large web sites? id be willing to spend a little money on one, but of course id like to try free first. Thank you.

You may try Dreamweaver cs4 trial version. You can use it for 30 days. I think you can learn a lot of things in 30 days.

I appreciate the advice, but I wouldn't feel comfortable learning to program for 30 days and then having to learn another one. Possibly.

All free programs are mostly Unprofessional, like NVU, or NamoEditor .. In your position, I would better choose to run my site under a free CMS like Joomla so that you edit everything online and it's better for you to learn and to edit everything at same time.

Professional is how you USE the tools. If you choose to have some unknown third party programmer create the code for YOUR website, it is YOU that is being unprofessional not the tool you choose to use.

Your point is like a joiner saying "That cut isn't straight because I used someone else's saw"!!

As the adage goes "A poor workman always blames his tools"

Dichotomous!

Use Notepad++ otherwise if you haven't the time to learn HTML, techniques and such then you really should hire a professional - I run more renovations than innovations because so many rookies are running about doing DIYs or designing for a quick income.
