Need Suggestion for Website Development/ Maintenance

I work in the marketing department for a large corporate law firm with over 3000 employees and 800 attorneys. We have a website now, which incorporates a marketing database (from which the website pulls data for dynamic pages), but we are growing increasingly dissatisfied with the company that developed and now services our website.

We want to make a new site altogether, but we must carry over all of our old data and hopefully we can significantly increase our capabilities and SEO with the new site. My internet search for companies that would be able to handle this task has been fruitless thus far.

Our current provider/developer is law industry specific; we think that perhaps leaving the law specific realm will allow us better functionality and service. What do you think about this?

I wonder if any of you have suggestions, either of specific companies or how to properly seek out these companies.

Thanks in advance

it is totally doable, do you even know what kind of technology your existing database runs on, is it .net? sql? php? asp?

1st find out what it runs on and then find someone who specializes in that field.

Do you have the website address? It would help to see how it is currently set up but it is possible. There are many companies that cater to a specific niche, lawyers and realtors are very common. The drawback is they all use the same set up so by finding companies that are diversified will present you with new ideas. The companies that already cater to one market have set tools that don't often change and money is made through volume which leaves little time for strategy and design.

Your best bet would probably be to call a few local companies and let them know if they can do that, then take it from there. Once you talk to a least 2-3 companies you'll get a feel for what's reasonable to do.
