Do you know which type of program the website is coded for (dreamweaver, frontpage, CMS)? Let me know and I will find a book for you. I would also be interested to have someone that is brand new learning to do some video tutorials for someone learning that is totally has no web design knowledge to show others. PM about the book you need.
You can easily learn designing online. Learn css and semantic html through online tutorials. Try htmldog or w3cschools websites. These are very helpful sites.
You can use w3schools or purchase a beginner book of web designing and also you learn from here. Just post your question and wait for reply from experts who are the member of this community.

Web Design is more than just the look and feel of your web site. This all encompassing field certainly encompasses the graphics of your web pages, but in most cases, the graphics can come last. Good Web Design begins with your web sites functionality, your audience, and engineering of your site's framework.
It depends on your inputs, there are many resources online which can help you in learning designing. But if the changes are needed right now then take help from someone. It may take some time to get well versed and makes changes.
I read a lot about a new plugin for Photoshop - Divine plugin. But there is no information about it on the official Adobe website. Has anyone tried the divine? It seems to be very useful for designers and developers.
try lynda.com for some paid lessons, very informative. Read the stickied threads as Chris suggests. try w3schools.com too.
Also, download Opera, and use the Dragonfly feature to look at how other people are building pages, nothing like a bit of real-world experience to get to grips with HTML & CSS.

I started with Microsoft Expression - a package whereby you have 10-12 templates and can COMPLETELY change then as you learn css and html. I taught myself web design from there.
Once you get more advanced, you can then call in scripts for rotating pictures etc (you don't need to write all this code yourself).
If you'll make modifications of your website with experts even, I'll suggest you to try to learn web designing by yourself. That knowledge would help you a lot for your websites. You can implement several good design and ideas from your design skills. Try to follow W3 Schools, it really can help you to get basic ideas. Then you've to learn a lot and develop your skills. It'll be better if you'll go for a professional course from experts.
