I would like to what good free sitemap generators out there?
I want one that will index 5000 pages or so.

Most popular forums have their own sitemap generator. they should follow the guidelines for permissions so that might solve your solution. have you checked if your forum have a mod available.

I dont understand why you would want to use a site that crawls what it can see.?

Google will do the same.

The whole point of these sitemaps is to tell google / yahoo etc of pages it cant find?

I always use http://www.xml-sitemaps.com/ to do most of the legwork, then I go in a fine tune the results.

http://sitemapdoc.com/ is a good website to create sitemap for google.

I usually use http://www.xml-sitemaps.com/ but it can include maximum 500 pages
