• How can I add a navigational text link within the left-hand column on all my website pages?
• How do I extend the navigational text link column so that my text links do not extend beyond the column?
• Which ftp folder/file do I need to locate to make these edits?

It depends. Think about your questions -- they're roughly equivalent to someone saying, "I bought a home... 1) How can I add furniture?, 2) How do I decorate the house with my furniture to keep everything in a room?, and 3) Where are the doors so I can make these changes?" The answer to that set of questions depends as well.
