Please post here reasons to why visitors would leave a website (sometime very fast)

  • Poor design
  • Content that doesn't match their search query
  • Background music that can't be turned off
  • Extra long paragraphs
  • Poor font and background color combination making it hard to read
  • Poornavigation
Post your experience

All of them, and you forgot pages that take forever to load and mystery meat navigation.

I remember a long time ago i went to a site that had an image of a cow and you would have to click each one of the cows udders to get to a different page and you could never remember what udder you clicked to get to certain pages.

I mean seriously all udders look the same to me.

All that you have mentioned Dente, I have experienced at one time or another. Some websites I have encountered and are still doing this one, it takes about three, four, five clicks to reach the page you actually want.

This happened about 2-3 months ago, if I could remember the product I was looking for that would help where I could supply the link for you to see, will put my thinking cap on and see if I can find the link.

However, this very issue was discussed here many years ago at Webmaster Talk, about several clicks to access a page you want, when the first click should be it. This devious tactic has been going on now for quite a few years, I thought it had ceased until I ran across the site with this old tactic.

Will get me to leave a site immediately:
- Done entirely in Flash
- Background music (for that matter ANY music) that can't be turned off
- Splash screen, especially if done in Flash
- Attempted redirects
- Anything that fiddles with browser functionality (disabled back button, no right-click, etc.)

Will probably get me to leave a site sooner than later:
- Poor navigation, design, garbage content
- Sites that have more links than content

There are a lot of reasons for this.We cannot specify each one.Like web design does matter and content is also the main factor for this.If some one really want to know about each and everyone reason for leaving a website they can search in search engines.

I hate pop ups too.
Would anyone leave a website if someone from the live support would start to talk and ask if he/she could help you with anything?

my experience has shown me that a slow load time is one of the biggest factors. if too many things are loaded such as facebook connect for example, then the user bounces.

A landing page that simply promotes Google ads. It seems like they are popping up all over the place.
