I am new to Dreamweaver and have little to no knowledge of HTML. I am almost finished designing my site but I am have two problems.

1. I am trying to add a hotspot. The tutorial says to click on the image in design view and in the properties menu select the rectangle tool. The problem is that there is no rectangle tool. The area that the hotspot tools should be in is just a blank grey area. WHY?

2. I used cells to layout my page. The images in Layout view are flush to the margins. When I preview in a browser there is additional spacing between the cells and margins. I was able to eliminate the top and left margin in Page Properties however there is still a bottom and right margin. The cell padding is set to 0 so I am not sure why there is spacing between the cells.

Please help!

Hi, which version of Dreamweaver are you using. Usually when you click on an image the options should appear in your properties bar at the left hand bottom.

You may have a none breaking space in there. Take a look at your code and delete the instances of

Are the images you are using .jpg, .gif or .png? Also, when you click on a different image, do the tools show up?

Regarding the 1st question, dreamweaver shows this grey image which can be replaced by any other image you want to put there. It is grey just to show you how much space the image uses and how it looks in the overall design.

Create an image with photoshop/fireworks/gimp/etc. with the same pixels and double click on the grey image to insert your newly created one.

Regarding your 2nd question, it is impossible to fully understand the problem. Post a link to the website you are developing so we can have a look.

You also may have padded the cells...check to make sure that you set "cellpadding=0"
