I've used Joomla a little bit and today I've been looking at Drupal for the first time.

My site is content heavy, hierarchical.

I'm thinking about converting to a CMS because I think they look more professional than my hand-crafted job and I would like to be able to link related content together automatically.

I've found Joomla to be be a bit inflexible and after a day reading about Drupal I'm still unable to create anything at all with it as the documentation doesn't seem to offer anything to newbs.

Would you, in my shoes, a) stick with Joomla, persevere with b) Drupal or c) try something else (what?)

?

Oh I forgot to add that I really want to be able to have custom URLs - my site already has 100+ pages that are well indexed in google and I wouldn't want to lose that. This is my biggest headache really.

not sure if there is automated way of doing this but i know you can use custom urls in wordpress cant remember if it is default option or part of the SEO plugin but it is possible.Might take a while if you have 100+ pages to add and there is no automation of the process.

Thanks for your reply. I've found the sh404sef module on Joomla can take care of most of my urls so I can keep them the same - so I guess I'll go ahead and use joomla as I'm more familiar with it.

Only from past experience I would recommend Wordpress. I have never tried any of the other CMS before though.

Joomla is extremely easy to configure and install, there's countless free/paid themes you can pick up as well but if you know some HTML and have a design you should be able to create your own. I know that Joomla has multilingual support but couldn't find any specific documentation that it's available using VirtueMart. It does, however, support PayPal and Credit Card purchases as well as several other configurable payment methods. Both Joomla and VirtueMart are open source.

It's belong to which content of your site. Joomla is easy to publish you articles and there're large of developer for this but you must take much time to get a suitable theme for your site, hard to customize your web user interface.

If you want to build a website with low cost of time, wordpress will be the first choice!

Yeah, I also have to throw my hat in with dotCMS. Easily the most flexible CMS I've ever used, and for all the horsepower, it's also been one of the easiest to learn. While Liferay is good, it's designed as more of a portal system, and for what it's worth, dotCMS was actually built off of a fork of Liferay.

If you are looking for a hosted content management system. I would recommend you to use Crownpeak - efficient and easy to use. CMS can use different platforms like Java, ASP.NET, PHP, Perl. From those that use PHP, according to php tutorial, most popular are Drupal,Mambo, PHP-Nuke, TYPO3, WordPress.

I didn't used many CMS, but Wordpress seems to be good enough for most of the websites. We can customize it by using variety of plug-ins available on net. As a very popular CMS, lot of documentations are available on net.

Following are some open source CMS:
1. Wordpress
2. Joomla!
3. Drupal

WordPress is a state-of-the-art publishing platform with a focus on aesthetics, web standards, and usability. WordPress is probably the most popular CMS and blogging platform.

I would be another one to throw my hat in the ring for Wordpress. I wouldn't have always said that, but then I learned how to do custom templates. Once I figured that out, it became clear that Wordpress was easily the best, most flexible CMS I had ever used. It's popularity also lends to several people continuously making very useful plugins for it. Personally, I design nearly every website I do with it now....whereas before I almost wouldn't touch it.

It's not just a blogging platform anymore.

You can avoid this by doing 301 redirects in your site map to the new URL. Any backlinks you have will also transfer to the new page through a 301 redirect. It's time consuming, but worth it if you need to change your URLs.

Also, my suggestion for a CMS is wordpress.

I am using Joomla! CMS for several years and the results are astounding. Recenntly has released version 1.5, which greatly improves the usability of the software. Not integrated e-commerce, but I heard that VirtueMart component is very popular. There are several other expansions of e-commerce is added to the directory where you want to compare them all before deciding.

In my opinion Wordpress would be the best suggestion for you! It's the most useful, popular and easy to use CMS.
