I've been using WS_FTP LE for almost everything, but since about a
month ago, I keep getting a 'blocking call cancelled' message for any ftp server that I try to access.
I thought it was a problem with WS_FTP, so I installed Filezilla,
and still can't connect to any ftp server. Then I disabled my firewall (Mcafee 2005)
and tried both programs again, but to no avail.
It seems to be that I cannot access the FTP protocal from my PC, because
I even tried to click on ftp:// links, and gotten a "cannot be found" message
in any browser I've tried to use.
I've tried passsive mode, and again without, and still no luck.
I've run every antivirus/antispyware program that I have, and even
gone into the registry just to make sure they did their job, and still no luck.

I need to fix this problem as soon as possible, because without being able
to back up any of my websites, plus having several new forums to create
(that requires ftp if you use a skin) I'm seriously screwed.

Any real help is absolutely appreciated - I saw something once that
said to go into msconfig, but I wouldn't know wth to uncheck once I was in there.

Hi Visarts,

Are you using Windows XP? If you are you should look in Control Pannel and Windows Firewall to make sure the settings are not blocking your access to FTP servers.

Message back with the out come of that. If that didnt work we can try some other options.

Using XP SP2 - the windows firewall is disabled to avoid conflicts with Mcafee, but I've checked
all the settings I know how to check on windows security center and Mcafee security center,
and they all appear to allow FTP access on ports 21 and 22

UPDATE:
I went into msconfig and disabled the Windows Firewall from starting with windows,
restarted, and can ALMOST get into ftp - it logs in, and then gets to the LIST command
and times out. I've been to google and ask.com for an answer, but can't seem to find
the specific solution...

Update:
set to passive mode, and now it works!
